Mission & Values

Thomas Cutinella was a special individual who cared deeply for his family, friends and country. However, that wasn't enough for Thomas, he made it a point to care for everybody. He was selfless, respectful and a kind person who always found the time to lend a helping hand. At the age of only 16 years old, Thomas was ahead of his time and always did the right thing. He was servant minded and a friend to all. Thomas also had a tremendous ability to lead and used that ability to inspire others.  

Unfortunately, on October 1, 2014, on a rainy Wednesday, during a varsity football game, Thomas suffered a traumatic head injury during an on-field collision. Thomas was rushed to a local hospital where they were unable to save him. Thomas passed away at the age of 16 years old. Being the giver he was, on his birthday, he received his learners permit and told his parents he wanted to sign up to be an organ donor. Thomas’ family helped him achieve that wish and he successfully donated his heart, both kidneys, his liver, pancreas, both corneas, numerous bones and skin tissue. Through his act of giving, Thomas saved many lives.

Thomas’ influence still continued on. In the beginning of the football season, Thomas called a players only meeting to set some goals for his team. After Thomas’s passing, his high school varsity football team went on to continue achieving his dream. They finished the season with a perfect 12-0 record, and went on to win the County and Long Island Championship, as well as The Rutgers Trophy. His dreams didn’t stop there. Thomas was awarded a full scholarship to United States Military Academy at West Point to play football. ESPN did an amazing story on Thomas and his goals he set for himself. He always aimed high. 

Thomas legacy was not only about the sport he loved, but about his family, his friends and his community. Thomas was a member of the Best Buddy program, a Natural Helper, and a person that all his peers looked up to. Academically he was an honor student and a tutor to many. Thomas was an assistant coach to the community youth lacrosse program, as well as a volunteer whenever a hand was needed.  

Thomas definitely left a mark in this world. Through this foundation, we will continue to honor him and help to keep his legacy alive. Thomas’s beautiful spirit and life will continue on in each and every one of us.
